Manchu Entertainments has come up with a high budget film with
supernatural elements to score a hit that has been eluding Manchus for
so many years. This time they took the help of Balakrishna, who played a
special role in UKUP. This film has made enough buzz to catch the
attention of movie lovers. But is it worth it? Check the details...
What is it about?
One
stranger (Manoj) comes to Gandharva Mahal as a tenant and pretends that
he is a psycho to scare off other tenants. Mahal owner Rayudu (Prabhu)
elder daughter's marriage is fixed and Rayudu agrees to give away
Gandharva Mahal as the dowry to her. Strange things start to happen and
we get to know the story of Narasimha Rayudu (Balakrishna), father of
Rayudu.
Performances:
Manchu
Manoj delivers confident performance yet again. His performance as a
psycho in one song sequence is very good. However he has the knack of
going overboard at times. He should take care of that to appeal to
larger section of audience. Balakrishna is the saving grace for this
film. His performance and screen presence are too good. UKUP looks an
entirely different film when Balakrishna is on the screen. That is 'star
value' for you!
Lakshmi Manchu did well in the climax scene. She
has talent and should work on her diction. Deeksha Seth is bad. Sonu
Sood is competitive. Rest of the star cast complimented the lead actors.
Sai Kumar is Okay and Prabhu is alright.
On the Technical Front:
Bobo
Shashi's music is not up to the mark. Songs are shot well but music
doesn't impress much. Anuragame Harathulaye is the only song to
remember. Dialogues are okay. Could have been better. Cinematography is
good and the art work stands out. Both these departments did well to
make UKUP look technically very sound. Production values are pretty
impressive. They have spent lavishly on the film.
Director Sekhar
Raja's inexperience showed in the handling of this film. Screenplay is
not gripping. An experienced director might have made this a special
film. Sekhar Raja just made an ordinary film with expensive setup.
Analysis:
UKUP
first hour is unbearable. Only Balakrishna's scenes in the first half
are good. Second half is better than first half as the story unfolds.
However, it is not up to the expectations that the trailers raised.
Arundhati had similar setup but that film's screenplay was excellent.
UKUP failed miserably on the writing front. Hence this well shot film
couldn't leave good impression on the audience.
This film looked
promising right from the day it was announced. Trailers and promotional
stuff raised the expectations to a new level. Audiences expected a great
'experience' with the movie. But it is a flat film which irritates and
bores you to the core. Ten minutes before the interval and the climax
scenes are better when compared to the rest of the movie.
UKUP
might have been a good film if proper work is done on the script. Don't
know what the director was doing for four years on this subject? None of
the supporting characters are etched well. Pre release buzz on the film
might help the film to draw good openings, but it would be a daunting
task for the film to score success at the ticket windows.
Verdict: Uu Kodathara Ulikki Padathara disappoints big time.
